Tender Steaks and Stiff Drinks in a Swank Setting
Seen right: Gotham's dramatic entrance hints at what lies within.

Exceeding expectations has become de rigueur at this opulent American style steakhouse, which again took Gold Medal honours at Vancouver magazine’s 20th Annual Restaurant Awards. The judges deemed Gotham “the top spot to cut into a serious slab of Canadian Prime beef ” and praised them for “the city’s tastiest filet mignon, broiled to a perfect Chicago (or Pittsburgh) sear.” Brazen crimson walls are decorated with sweeping murals and stunning original artwork that stretches all the way to the dizzyingly high ceilings. Sumptuous private rooms, an exclusive garden patio and a lively cocktail lounge provide the ultimate backdrop for visiting celebrities and steak lovers alike. It’s like a carnival for carnivores, and nobody does it better.
While the room is opulent, the steaks are the stars of the show. The choicest cuts of 28 day aged Canadian Prime are always cooked perfectly in a massive double broiler that sears both sides at a whopping 1300° for maximum flavour. Choose from a mouthwatering array of sumptuous cuts like the porterhouse, New York strip, filet mignon, prime rib and the rib steak, lauded by connoisseurs for its luscious marbling.
Other standouts include double cut lamb and pork chops, herb roasted chicken, blackened ahi tuna and jumbo lobster tail. “Our menu is very self-explanatory and our plates are never overly ‘fussed’ with,” explains General Manager Christopher Langridge. “We focus on quality and simplicity, leaving the guest to design their meal exactly the way they want it.” A plethora of generous sides like fresh asparagus, creamed spinach or the lyonnaise potatoes, which are sliced thin and sautéed with caramelized onion, are tantalizing accompaniments to the entrées.
Full menu is also available in the piano lounge, featuring live music 6 nights a week. Stuffed wingback chairs and plush velvet booths provide a comfortable environment to soak in the sights. “The music never overpowers the ambiance,” explains Christopher. “But having someone tinkle the ivories of a grand piano does help to elevate the experience.” Outside, a large fireplace and lush greenery makes a spot on the Gotham patio a prime piece of urban real estate. Professional servers clad in crisp white coats offer informed, professional service. “We love what we do,” smiles Christopher, “and we have a lovely space to do it in.”
