Located in the Granville Island Hotel at the easternmost tip of the island, Dockside Brewing Company offers stellar food and one of the best views of the city. From the expansive 50-foot aquarium at the entrance to the large floor to ceiling bay windows that look out onto shimmering False Creek, Dockside is a winsome room guaranteed to impress.

The heated patio is one of the largest waterfront patios in Vancouver. Facing the marina, it is almost entirely surrounded by water. Away from the bustling Public Market, it’s easy to forget you’re in the city until you look across the water and drink in that towering cityscape. “It’s beautiful,” says Director of Food and Beverage Operations Joe Perri. “You feel totally secluded.”

Chef Brian Fodor specializes in locally sourced West Coast cuisine inspired by the Pacific Rim. Taking full advantage of the exquisitely fresh product from the nearby public market, chef Fodor has crafted a menu with standouts like local herb-crusted halibut with dill beurre blanc and Gulf Islands lamb sirloin with shallot and mint confit. A catch of the day and weekly feature sheets keep the selections fresh and lively.

“We’ve designed the wine list to accentuate our menu,” says Joe. “Our guests keep asking for products that are local, and we find they compliment our food quite nicely.” While heavy on selections from the Pacific Northwest, the wine list also features smart selections from regions that are touched by the Pacific Ocean like California, New Zealand, Australia and Chile. Wines by the glass are available in 5 and 8oz formats.

“One of the things we’re most proud of is our brewery,” says Joe. “Brew master Peter Haupenthal makes some terrific beers.” Frothy creations like the fruity Jamaican Lager with hibiscus and his signature Haupenthal hefeweizen are brewed on site, helping take the edge off chef Fodor’s spicy ‘chili squid’ tossed with fresh lime, herbs and cilantro.

“Breakfast here is spectacular,” intimates Joe. “There’s always lots of parking because the market doesn’t open until 9:30; so by the time you’ve finished our signature Belgian waffles or Pelican Bay omelet, all of Granville Island is yours to discover.”

“It’s a great way to start the day.”
