Vancouver's art community is lively and vibrant. The inception of the Vancouver Sculpture Biennale (an 18-month citywide exhibition of international sculpture on the urban landscape) has reinvigorated the world-class art scene, transforming it into a destination for art tourism. Visitors to Vancouver's many galleries will find a spectrum from Inuit and Northwest Coast art to cutting-edge works by emerging, established, and blue-chip Canadian and international artists.
If you enjoy collecting art from the cities you visit, a good place to take in a variety of galleries is the strip known as Gallery Row on Granville Street just south of the Granville Street Bridge. It offers several blocks of world-class galleries featuring local and international artists.
But if you find Gallery Row a little too tame for your liking, try Vancouver's artist-run centres. Sometimes controversial, the art tends to be more innovative and experimental, offering art in every medium from sculpute and painting to photography.
Below you will find links to some of GuestLife Vancouver's favorite galleries.
