VC09 - South Granville

Vancouver - Annual 2009

Occupying prime real estate between Shaughnessy and downtown, South Granville is chockablock with elegant home-design stores, luxury clothing boutiques, private art galleries, and some of the finest restaurants in town. An afternoon here is a date with the good life.

VC09 - South Granville
Fullhouse Consignment

The Fullhouse Consignment owner makes regular pilgrimages to Denmark to collect midcentury modern teak and rosewood furniture, and then pairs it with newly upholstered pieces and accessories, like hand-printed throw pillows from Toronto-based Fluf Designs. 1445 W. Eighth Ave., 604-733-7789.

Chachkas houses accessories of all types. We especially enjoy the array of beautiful Acme Studio pens. 2423 Granville St., 604-688-6417.

At 18Karat, modern furnishings are complemented by bold accessories, like oversized vessels, tableware, and textured throws — all changed seasonally. 3039 Granville St., 604-742-1880.

T — part minimalist tearoom, part boutique — has over 180 loose and bagged teas, and a definitive collection of designer pots and cups. 1568 W. Broadway, 604-730-8390.

Head to Nunu’s Sandwich Bar for simple sandwiches to go. (We suggest the veggie on multigrain, heaved with vegetables and topped with a slice of Swiss.) 1505 W. Broadway, 604-731-0489.

Rangoli is the companion bistro to acclaimed chef Vikram Vij’s namesake restaurant, and the perfect place to sample his aromatic Indian/West Coast fusion dishes at very reasonable prices — be sure to start with the pakoras. Now open till 10 p.m. 1488 W. 11th Ave., 604-736-5711.

A departure from the ubiquitous contemporary design aesthetic, the 1500 to 3000 blocks of Granville Street are lined with home stores catering to traditional interiors. Among them: K Interiors, Restoration Hardware, Williams-Sonoma, Pottery Barn and Pottery Barn Kids, CountryFurniture, and Shaughnessy Antique Gallery. For coordinating accents, visit Yves Delorme for beautiful French bed linens and soaps, Bacci’s at Home for luxurious housewares, and Peridot (on West 14th Ave., just off Granville St.) for dramatic, Paris-pretty mirrors and lighting.
