A GuestLife Vancouver Great Gallery
It only seems like yesterday that Lloyd and Frances Hill started out with a very simple concept. When they acquired the Koksilah General Store and Post Office in 1946, a new outlet was created on Vancouver Island for local Native artists to display and sell their work. Since then, there has been a resurgence and renewal of interest in First Nations' artwork and its stories throughout Canada and the world.
Today, as British Columbia's most recognized First Nations & Inuit art source, Hill's interest lies in preserving the culture of First Nations' peoples. Hill's has been acknowledged for its ongoing support of Canada's Aboriginal community, and has the distinction of representing both emerging and internationally renowned artists. With an impressive collection at the flagship store located in Historic Gastown, there are over 1200 artists displayed at any given time. The art itself is varied and diverse from every Tribe and Nation of the Northwest Coast, as well as Inuit art from Arctic Canada. In the new age of technology, Hill's launched its own web site featuring a gallery and on-line store. With this international presence comes avid collectors of Native art from Europe, Asia, Australia, New Zealand and of course, the United States.
Enthusiasts interested in the history, culture and art of Northwest Coast Native peoples will discover a Gallery where both the traditional and contemporary come together to be celebrated and preserved. Hill's provides visitors with a truly distinct Canadian experience.
