Visitors to Vancouver have been known to ask, “Where are all the malls?”
There are malls, of course, but being a fair-weather city, Vancouver is fortunate to have some of the best street front shopping strolls in the country. Take Robson Street downtown, with its bi-level fashion stores. And there is the high-end designer shopping district on Hastings Street between Granville and Burrard Streets.
One of the more interesting shopping areas is Yaletown, known for its housewares. Then there is South Granville, sometimes referred to as Gallery Row, because of its abundance of commercial art galleries. Granville Island is a mariner’s paradise with, among others, more than 50 stores dedicated to boating. “SoMa” (South Main Street) is trendy and new, while Commercial Drive is known as the last Bohemia in the city.
Yes, there are malls, but don’t miss out on all items to be found on a stroll down any one of Vancouver’s street front shopping districts!
