A GuestLife Vancouver
Great Restaurant
In Yaletown looking southeast toward False Creek is Vancouver’s Provence Marinaside, an awardwinning restaurant stunning for both its view and its magnificent food. Looking out through the floor-to-ceiling windows or sitting on the front patio, the view between the moored boats and across the water to the False Creek lands is gorgeous. On a sunny day, one could believe the restaurant is situated in chef/proprietor Jean- Francis Quaglia’s native Marseille.
Following five years of success at their Provence Mediterranean Grill on West 10th Avenue, Quaglia and his wife — chef and co-proprietor Alessandra — decided to try their hand at a second location. With all the attention to detail and focus on great Provençal food so beloved by the couple, Provence Marinaside opened in 2002 to great success. The interior of the restaurant is bathed in golden light, accented by silver and gold on the walls and by swatches of bright fabric. Comfortable and unpretentious, its style is nonetheless beautiful and elegant. The food, of course, is great.
“My food is fresh,” says Jean-Francis. “The style is a little lighter than other parts of France. Our focus is on seafood with a southern French-Mediterranean flair, which means we cook with vinaigrettes, olive oil, fresh herbs, tomatoes and garlic.” With 20 years experience, Quaglia knows his business.
Provence Marinaside offers fine dining at a reasonable price, but also offers a unique picnic basket service. Baskets are packed with a variety of goodies, including several antipasti, and are sure to be a highlight of any romantic rendezvous. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are all served, and the weekend brunch is a city favourite. “We are evolving,” says Jean-Francis. “Our menu has grown from what is was at the beginning. Everyone in any group will find something to suit their taste.”A visit to www.provencevancouver.com offers full menu information, as well as the online reservation system now coming to Canada.
The restaurant has picked up a number of awards, including the Vancouver Sun’s choice for Best Mediterranean Restaurant this year. And the wine list — with its focus on Rhône varietals — won the 2005 Silver Glass Award at the Vancouver Playhouse International Wine Festival.
Chef Quaglia invites readers to mention Vancouver’s Finest when making a reservation for a special welcome to Provence Marinaside.
