Kitsilano

Vancouver - Annual 2005

Life’s a beach in “Kits.” (It’s yoga headquarters, too.)

Kitsilano

Kitsilano is Vancouver’s Jessica Simpson: blonde, beautiful and fit, with an airy world-is-my-oyster attitude. And why shouldn’t she feel this way? Tons of green space, plenty of restored Craftsman-style houses on leafy streets, great shopping for sportswear, fashion and organic produce on Fourth Avenue and close proximity to the beach make “Kits” one of Vancouver’s most desirable neighbourhoods.

The area came into its own in the ’60s as a hub for university students and flower-power children, and today it’s still very popular with the 20-and-30-something set, even if Starbucks lattés have replaced herbal teas.

EAT:

The city’s best burger at Feenie’s. And order a side dish of mouth-watering poutine for a real Canuck experience. This casual bistro plays kid brother to Relais Gourmand-rated Lumière, often voted the city’s top restaurant (2563 W. Broadway, 604-739-7115).

DRINK:

The God of Good and Evil tropical fruit cocktail at Tangerine (1685 Yew St., 604-739-4677).

BROWSE:

Pretty cards, strings of pearls, glittery clutch purses, silky scarves and other de-lovely accessories at Lou Lou and Lou Lou Luv (3071 W. Broadway, 604-733-0466).
