As governor, I am pleased to welcome you to the great State of New Mexico. The story of New Mexico is filled with ancient traditions, colorful characters, and some of the most important technological innovations in U.S. history. We look forward to sharing our favorite stories — and our famous green chile — with you. New Mexico's landscapes are as diverse as her people. As you travel through the state, watch the scenery transform from expansive deserts to alpine meadows. Generations of artists, writers, explorers, and scientists have been drawn to New Mexico's big skies, extraordinary light, dramatic geological sites, and wilderness areas. Our natural heritage continues to play a central role in the culture of our state. You will find many opportunities to enjoy the great outdoors, whether hiking, biking, skiing, rafting, or simply taking in a beautiful sunset.

While here, take time to experience the distinctive arts, music, dance, and traditions of the diverse cultures that shape our community. Many of the centuries-old pueblos welcome visitors for special celebrations, and several sites around the state tell important stories of struggles for Native Americans' rights and homeland. The northern villages and mission churches around the state are among the oldest signs of a Hispanic legacy that continues to thrive. From Billy the Kid country to the world's first purpose-built commercial spaceport, the ongoing evolution of the American West is happening right here in New Mexico. Best wishes for a great visit. I hope your travels will bring you back soon to discover more of what makes New Mexico the "Land of Enchantment."

With warmest regards,
Bill Richardson
Governor of New Mexico
