Country music icon Randy Travis lives in the Land of Enchantment with his wife Elizabeth and finds a world of artistic inspiration here. The six-time Grammy Award winner — who started playing music when he was 10 years old, in Southern venues with his brother, has sold more than 24 million albums since his debut Storms of Life, and has appeared in many films and television shows — took time to answer a few questions for GuestLife New Mexico.

Q: What drew you to New Mexico, and how long have you lived here?
A: My wife and I have lived here for nine years; and we like the weather, the beautiful land and skies, clean air, incredibly flavorful food, and Southwest art and style.

Q: What are your favorite day trips?
A: Anywhere in the state is a great day trip. Walking and shopping in historic downtown Santa Fe, Carlsbad Caverns, and Indian reservations — I just love being anywhere in the Land of Enchantment.

Q: Chile: red or green?
A: Green

Q: What are your favorite New Mexican dishes?
A: Sopaipillas, green chile, blue corn tortillas — I love it all. My wife and I have green chile shipped to us when we're on tour for long runs at a time and we can't get home for a while.

Q: Does New Mexico inspire your music?
A: I have written more songs in one day in Santa Fe than in any other place. Also, I have found that recording vocals for my music in Santa Fe always puts me in a great place and brings out strong performances. I have recorded the vocals for my new country CD in Santa Fe and am very happy with how they are sounding.

Q: What is your favorite New Mexico event?
A: The Indian Market is sure one of our favorites.
