The Area - Welcome to New Mexico!

New Mexico - Annual 2006

GuestLife New Mexico - The AreaWelcome to the rich land that is New Mexico.

Jean Kepler Ross

This is a place full of natural wonders, cultural treasures and a wide diversity of citizens. You are invited to join in the fiestas, markets and fairs throughout the year and celebrate our interwoven cultural backgrounds. Here you will find Pueblo dances that have endured for millennia, Hispanic festivals and customs dating back to the time of the Spanish explorers and open spaces and glorious skies that enticed Western settlers and artists alike.

As the fifth largest state in the nation, New Mexico is also diverse in its landscape. From the spectacular gypsum dunes of White Sands in the south, to mountain ranges and wilderness offering fresh air and freedom for recreation, the life-giving Rio Grande that flows from north to south through it all, and the other-worldly volcanic landscapes of badlands, this is a place that invites exploration. You can go underground and view the amazing scenes at Carlsbad Caverns or chose to relax in our natural hot springs or luxurious spas.

New Mexico’s cities are pulsing with the energy of commerce and art. Our museums, galleries and performing artists will entertain and enlighten you. Come join us for world-class opera that also offers the possibility of coyotes singing along with the marvelous music. You’ll find Native and Hispanic crafts at internationally famous markets, flamenco and powwow dancers and mariachi musicians to lighten your spirit. You’ll also find dishes to spice up your taste buds at our restaurants and nature’s bounty and colorful crafts at our farmers’ markets.

This is a land where dinosaurs once roamed and where their fossils are discovered even today. Traces of earlier peoples still speak to visitors in the many petroglyphs and ruins. You may find the famous flute player, Kokopelli, etched or painted onto an ancient boulder and hear melodies of flutists in concert on the same day!

Welcome and open your heart to the wonders we are happy to share!
