Hyperion Project Winner La Honda Performed at the Circle Theatre of The Golden Bough in Carmel
La Honda, written by Jeff Carter, is an atmospheric film noir style story that focuses on the estranged relationship between one time TV actor, now failed businessman, Frank Macklin (Equity member Dharaj Maxfield) and his father Tommy (Equity member Paul Myrvold), a blacklisted Hollywood director who lives in seclusion in a rundown bungalow in the woods of La Honda, California. The play unfolds in the aftermath of Frank’s failed business deal, arrival at La Honda and their mutual attraction to Tommy’s houseguest Dee (MaryAnn Schaupp-Rousseau). Additional characters are Doug (Michael Junsay), a runaway teen and second houseguest, and criminal middleman Alfredo (Garland Thompson) who is after Frank to collect the money he owes for his failed deal.
Playwright Jeff Carter says “La Honda pits traditional noir codes of honor and loyalty against today’s sensibilities, with all the characters in various forms of exile…. Chekhov meets Raymond Chandler”. A Bay Area resident, Jeff Carter has been a finalist or winner of numerous playwriting competitions including the Eugene O’Neill National Playwrights Conference, the John Gassner Memorial Playwriting Award, and the 2007 Moving Arts Theatre Festival, and many of his winning scripts have been produced throughout the United States.
Directed by PacRep’s resident Dramaturg, Dan Gotch, La Honda will begin with two discount previews, Thursday and Friday, November 5 and 6, at 7:30pm and opens Saturday, November 7, at 7:30pm, followed by a 2:00pm matinee on Sunday, Nov 8. Performances continue Friday and Saturday Nov. 13 and 14 at 7:30pm, with a closing matinee on Sunday Nov 15 at 2:00pm. Performances are at the Circle Theatre of the Golden Bough Playhouse, located on Casanova St. between 8th and 9th, Carmel.

General admission single ticket prices range from $16 to $35 with discounts available for seniors over 65, students, children, teachers, and active military.
