Flaherty’s Oyster Bar and Flaherty’s Seafood Grill in downtown Carmel are the Monterey Peninsula’s seafood mecca. At the bright and lively Oyster Bar, customers may choose fresh oysters, clams, crabs, and lobster from Carmel’s only saltwater tank, Enjoy Flaherty’s world-famous clam chowders in both the Manhattan and incredibly rich Boston varieties, or savor the day’s catch delivered fresh from the source every morning.

At a table for two or a center spread for 12, it’s elbow to elbow, with casual fun and good-natured socializing.

The crab and clam chowders are made to meet the steady demand for what most travelers say is the best they’ve ever had. Desserts are made fresh daily and are remembered by visitors who come back year after year. The Oyster Bar’s bright, light, and noisy environment is as upbeat as a place like this can get.

Flaherty’s Seafood Grill right next door is, in contrast, a balm for the senses. Its surroundings cradle and comfort like an island getaway. Here, the emphasis is on relaxed intimacy, the perfect counterpoint to the liveliness of the Oyster Bar. Chef Cocova’s extensive knowledge of seafood and his creative culinary skills take the bounty of seafood to its richest potential with delicacies like the elusive Monterey spot prawns. These giant local delights look like baby lobsters but are sweeter and more tender.
