Pat Areias, her store’s namesake, fell in love with the look and feel of sterling silver in the early ’80s. After a stint in the Peace Corps, where she served in Central and South America, Pat apprenticed with both silver and leather craftsmen in Ecuador and Mexico. It was during this time that she perfected the art of silversmithing and found she had a talent for envisioning unusual yet appealing forms for the silver she so loved — creating designs in her mind’s eye inspired by the many things she saw in her daily life.

So in 1987, Pat set up her own workshop to transform her visions into beautiful belt buckles, jewelry, and home décor pieces. Her design workshop grew quickly, necessitating assistance from other master silversmiths. Her creations were in such demand, that in 1994, she opened her first store in Carmel where, to this day, every silver item she presents for sale is designed and hand fabricated in her workshop. They use no molds, patterns nor machine stamping. Everything is formed, soldered, hammered, and polished by hand, giving the unmistakable look of individuality and character.

Taking it one step further, Pat and her husband Fred Sanchez have traveled the world to find the finest leather belts to complement her silver buckles. Exotic leather belts from Italy, France, and Switzerland are waiting to be paired with Pat’s sterling silver buckles, designed to create that special look. Pat’s knowledgeable staff is on hand to impart their fashion expertise in matching belt with buckle, then assembling this one-of-a-kind accessory to wear with pride.

In addition to the Carmel location, Pat and Fred have their 10-year-old store on Madison Avenue in New York City and their 4-year-old store in Beverly Hills. All stores are open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. Drop by and see the shimmer — it’s irresistible.
