A term invented by the British at the height of their Empire, originally expressed in the initials P.O.S.H. that stood for Port Out, Starboard Home. The most desirable of the accommodations aboard the ships on which they sailed, it became the word used to describe all things elegant, carefully tended, and very upper class.

Cy Cerro, the owner of POSH in the Carmel Plaza has named his shop well. POSH is an extremely elegant shop in which the client is very carefully tended and the atmosphere is classic.

Following in the footsteps of Saks Fifth Avenue and the late I. Magnin stores, Cerro offers only the best in cashmere, leathers, a line of custom designed clothing, footwear by Stuart Weitzman and the premier label, ST. JOHN. POSH also offers active wear, sports wear, evening, collection and couture. Lovers of ST. JOHN will be thrilled that this line occupies half of the space in the boutique. POSH also carries pieces by Féraud and the House of Dereon whose owner is the singer Beyoncé. In addition, POSH has an array of fur coats, jackets, and vests. Ask to see the Dr. Zhivago coat —it is fit for royalty.

Cerro likes to think of the shop as a luxurious cocoon in which the women of the area and those who visit, are welcomed, offered a glass of champagne and allowed to browse throughout the merchandise without feeling any pressure to buy. “An amusement park for ladies,” Cerro declares.
