Celebrating 20 Years of Sculpture by Richard MacDonald
Monterey Bay's Great Galleries
Anyone who strolls the streets of Carmel feels like a veteran art collector — even a window shopper will begin to imagine their ideal collection. Dawson Cole Fine Art is exceptionally placed to turn those dreams into reality. Long trusted in the area as the representative of a local icon, the internationally respected sculptor Richard MacDonald, they understand the importance of the gallery relationship to successful collecting. Collectors can feel confident they will find both integrity and expertise at Dawson Cole Fine Art, where quality and value are paramount.
October 2008 brought Richard MacDonald to the 20th anniversary of his career as a sculptor. This important milestone was celebrated with the opening of an elegant new gallery at the corner of Lincoln and Sixth. The personal signifi cance of the new gallery is two-fold. Twenty years ago, a devastating fire burned Richard MacDonald’s studio to the ground, taking his works in progress, his livelihood, and threatening the momentum of his newly launched career as a sculptor. For Richard MacDonald the destruction galvanized his resolve to bring new life to the world of figurative art with sculpture that expressed his unique vision.
Now, 20 years later, the fire can be seen as the opening chapter of a story that includes the creation of permanent public monuments across the country, an artistic collaboration with Cirque du Soliel, and many prestigious awards. In a fateful twist worthy of fiction, the new Dawson Cole Fine Art gallery on Lincoln is in the very same location as the gallery that gave him his first opportunity to show his sculpture in 1988.
To complement the collection of fine figurative art by Richard MacDonald, the gallery presents original drawings, paintings, and works on paper by important Modern Masters such as Chuck Close, Paul Gauguin, Henry Moore, Pablo Picasso, Jian Wang, and Robert Heindel.
