Monterey Bay's Great Galleries

Founded in 1927, Carmel’s oldest gallery features the work of more than 120 professional local artists and is dedicated to presenting the finest work for sale by artist members living on the Monterey Peninsula. The gallery features an impressive variety of paintings in oil, acrylic, and watercolor, sculpture, and mixed media work. Each month the gallery changes the special shows, and artwork throughout the gallery. The historic building provides exhibition space for its members’ works and continues to support community involvement through lecture and film series, concerts, art demonstrations, and special fundraising events.

The Carmel Art Association has a long and proud heritage. Many of its founding members were among the great early California artists including the distinguished Armin Hansen, William Ritschel, Paul Dougherty, Mary DeNeale Morgan, Percy Gray, Francis McComas, E. Charlton Fortune, John O’Shea to name a few.

In 2007, the association celebrated 80 years of local art with a Block Party for the Arts. The community enjoyed a full day of music, art, theater, and culture at this artist-owned gallery located in a beautiful sculpture garden on the west side of Dolores Street between Fifth & Sixth avenues in Carmel.
