With its history of inspiring artists, the Monterey Peninsula has become one of the West Coast’s most important art markets. There are more than 100 galleries in Carmel alone. While you tour the galleries, you will see many different interpretations of the peninsula’s outstanding natural beauty.

Whatever your taste in art, you’re sure to find a gallery with pieces you love. From classic to contemporary the selection is outstanding. If Impressionism or Early California art is your passion, this is definitely the place for you. Modernism and contemporary art are also well represented.

Founded in 1927, this historical gallery has been home to many of the area’s finest artists for more than 79 years. It is the second oldest artist cooperative in the country. Featuring paintings and sculpture for sale by more than 100 local professional artists, Carmel Art Association offers a wide and diverse variety of artwork to purchase or just enjoy while browsing. Showcasing more than 60 world-renowned contemporary artists featuring Realism and Impressionism. The collection embraces original oils and bronze sculptures. Conway of Asia is an exceptional “covered bazaar,” featuring fabulous, hand-woven carpets from the rug-weaving capitals of the world. As a direct importer, owner Peterson Conway has uncovered some of the most magnificent treasures, furniture and artifacts from the oncegreat civilizations of Byzantium and Samarkand to the Mogul palaces of India, Nepal, Tibet, Burma and Thailand. Gallerie Amsterdam has been recognized by discerning admirers as one of the most elegant art galleries in Carmel. In its more than 3,600-square-foot space, the gallery features artwork by European and American artists. Recently it has been given the privilege of representing the actor/artist Tony Curtis, as well as the work of the late actor/artist Anthony Quinn, whose oil paintings and sculptures are world renowned. Gallerie Amsterdam will be having a gallery event featuring Mr. Tony Curtis in February 2006!

Located at The Lodge at Pebble Beach, Images of Pebble Beach offers a unique collection of archival photographic prints featuring vintage Pebble Beach events, people and landmarks. Worth stopping by to see is the 1925 Julian P. Graham photograph The Lone Cypress, which has been restored and mastered from the original negative. This collection also includes contemporary landscapes of Pebble Beach Golf Links by noted artists and photographers, such as Graeme Baxter, Joann Dost and Taku Miyamoto. Alternate artists will be showcased throughout the year.

“Carmel’s Most Magical Gallery” celebrates its 21st year presenting the unique collection of Lynn Lupetti. Included are exquisite figurative paintings of children, animals, fantasy, characters from literature, sacred icons and sensuous nudes. Original oils, master’s editions and signed and numbered limited-edition lithographs and giclées are available, as well as bronze sculpture by Kim Kori and J.A. Our light-filled corner gallery offers an international collection of fine art painting, sculpture, glass and unique functional objects. Best of the contemporary glass artists including Jack Storms’ dichroic and optical crystal sculptures, architectural glass of John Lewis and Murano master Afro Celotto. Sculpture includes evocative work by Gedion Nyanhongo of Zimbabwe and the highly defined figurative marble sculpture of Márton Váró. Paintings range from representational to abstract styles by British master Harold Hitchcock, Michael Flohr, Mary Titus, Brad Stroman, Jaline Pol and others.
