VOICE:
Inside historic Hotel ICON, Voice (832-667-4470) is outfitted in chic, Texas décor — think stately 30-foot columns, leather chairs, and cowhide barstools hugging a dark wooden bar. Entrées range from $23 to $38, or you can head to the lounge for weekday deals that hit the spot without denting your wallet. Case in point: Tuesday, get a beer and a burger for $10. Happy hour: Mon.- Thurs., 4-7 p.m.
T’AFIA:
Dubbed the “Alice Waters of the Third Coast,” Chef Monica Pope is helping pave the way in Houston’s slow-food movement at her Midtown-set t’afia restaurant (713-524-6922). For gratis samples, head to the bar, where bites from the lounge menu flow with every drink order. Try one of the namesake ratafias — fortified wine concoctions made with organic, local produce and Texas wine — paired with the mini bison burgers. Happy hour: Tue.- Fri., 4-7 p.m.
BENJY’S:
Part restaurant, part lounge scene, Benjy’s (Rice Village: 713-522-7602; Washington: 713- 868-1131) draws a loyal happy hour following at both its Washington Avenue and Rice Village locations. Each night, from 4-7 p.m., the biz offers specialty cocktails (blood orange ‘ritas, strawberry tinis, for example), as well as modern-American, wallet-friendly apps like butternut squash crepes and homemade, chicken-sausage pizza, among other items.
